This project is perfect if you’re just starting your crafting journey, are looking for something quick to make (last minute Xmas pressie?!), or have pieces of felt leftover from other projects.
Use a variety of felt colours for a mix-and-match look or limit yourself to a two-colour palette for a more modern feel.

How to
Step 1
Send the cutting files to your ScanNCut. Place the felt on your fabric mat or use a standard mat with a high tack adhesive support sheet attached. Perform a test cut. Cut the coasters.
- With your ScanNCut SDX: use the auto blade.
- With your ScanNCut CM: cut two pieces of 1.5mm of felt and fuse them together with appliqué paper.
- If you don’t have a ScanNCut and are only making embroidered coasters, skip to Step 2, and cut by hand once you’ve embroidered your designs.
Step 2 – for the embroidered coasters
Download the embroidery patterns above and transfer them to your Brother embroidery machine. Resize if needed and embroider onto the pieces of felt.
Tip: your pieces of felt may be smaller than your hoop. You can either embroider onto the felt BEFORE cutting your coaster pieces, or use the ‘floating’ method. Not sure which stabiliser to use or how to float? Check out our Know Your Stabilisers article here.
Step 2 – for the ScanNCut coasters
Download the cutting patterns above, transfer them to your ScanNCut, and resize them if needed.
Place the vinyl or flock onto your cutting mat. You can also flip the design before cutting if you want.
Cut, weed, and adhere to the coasters’ bases.
Tip: if you’re using small pieces of leftover HTV or flock, use the background scanning function to ensure your cutting patterns are in the right place.
