Stitching out tips and tricks
Hooping velvet is tricky, as a standard hoop can leave marks on the material. We used a magnetic hoop and a mask.
If you need to use a conventional hoop, float the velvet on top of the tearaway. Secure with pins. Add a basting stitch to your design.
If you have an intricate design, or find that you get a lot of puckering, you can trace the inside of your hoop onto the tearaway, and then draw another line about 3cm inside the line. Adhere the velvet to the tearaway with basting spray and pins, then baste with your sewing machine. Now hoop just the stabiliser and let the velvet float.
