Festive wreath embroidery
This free festive wreath embroidery design will add the finishing touches to any festive table.
It’s also perfect to add to all sorts of homewares, bringing a touch of vintage style to your home this Christmas.
Available in four sizes, we used it on a placemat, a cloth napkin and we also created our own Advent candle setting – you can find the instructions for making your own candle setting or coaster below (so keep reading!).
You can even personalise your napkins and table settings by adding monograms into the centre of the wreath. What a special way to celebrate your loved ones this festive season.

The colour codes in our designs are an indication only – get wild and creative with whatever colour variations you fancy! For a pleasing effect, choose thread colours to match your fabric choices.
How to make the candle setting/coaster
Materials needed
- Felt to embroider on – you need four pieces according to the size of candle holder you have chosen (or how big your mugs are!)
- Backing material – foam or felt (four pieces)
- Embroidery threads
- Double sided tape or appliqué paper
Equipment needed
- Embroidery machine
- ScanNCut or scissors
- Mathematical compass or small plate (etc) to use as template
Step 1
Download all the embroidery files and adjust to your size requirement. Stitch out on stabilised felt or fabric of your choice.
Step 2
Once finished, cover the whole back with double-sided tape (do not remove the second layer of paper yet).Note: if you are using a felt or fabric backing, you can use appliqué paper instead of double-sided tape. In that case, iron appliqué paper to the back of the finished embroideries. Make sure to use a pressing cloth or sheet of baking paper when fusing the appliqué paper to the felt.
Step 3
Cutting out embroideries. There are two ways to do this, we have included both below.
Option 1: draw a circle around the embroidery and cut out by hand. Use a compass or template to ensure the circle is neat – if you don’t have a compass, a small plate, mug or something else stable and circular will work well. Cut the foam backing to the same size.
Option 2: if you have a ScanNCut DX with a rotary blade, create a circle cutting shape. Place your embroideries right side up on the cutting mat and make sure they are stuck down well to the mat. Do a background scan, move the cutting shape accordingly and cut. Then cut the backing foam using the same circular cutting shape.
Tip: keep an eye on the ScanNCut while it is cutting to make sure the embroidered pieces do not move. Reduce the cutting speed so you have more control.
Step 4
Remove the paper backing from the double-sided tape or appliqué paper that was adhered to the embroidered pieces. Stick or fuse each embroidery to a backing piece.
Add your candle holders and candles, and have a wonderful festive season this year!
