Material suggested

The fabric you choose for your project needs to be heavy enough to carry the dense stitching that this pattern is comprised of. Choose a looser weave fabric to help to eliminate puckering.

We would suggest: heavy weight linen as the weave is looser. The fibres will adjust easier to accommodate any puckers and lie flat when you press it.

Why not experiment with darker backgrounds to really make the colours of the embroidery stand out?

Tip: did you know that you can preview different background colours with your design on the screen of some of our embroidery machines?

Stabiliser required

Heavyweight fusible cutaway.
Please ensure you use a heavyweight stabiliser for this pattern, to ensure it copes with the density of the stitching and protects your fabric adequately.

Stitching out tips and tricks

Take note! These designs are large and are made up of very heavy stitching in some places, so make sure you stabilise your fabric really well. We suggest you add basting around the design area (in the embroidery mode), as well as stabilising, to minimise puckering and buckling of your design.

You may see some puckers forming while you are stitching the design. Moderate puckering is OK, and if you are using a looser weave fabric, you will be able to press them out when finished.

To press: when you have unhooped, carefully loosen the stabiliser from the fabric, and trim right up to the design. Now give it a spray with a pressing agent, like Best Press or Flatter, and press on a wool pressing mat using a pressing cloth. It’s a good idea to use lots of steam.

Don’t worry if the grain of the fabric is slightly distorted because of all this puckering and pressing – this is normal!

Take care to hoop well, and experiment with lowering your top thread tension.
