Mistletoe cushions covers

There’s an old myth about kissing under the mistletoe…

Will you kiss your sweetheart under the mistletoe this winter? Up the chances by making this ScanNCut heat transfer vinyl cushion cover project.

Want to get comfy with your beloved? We’ve got a Santa and Rudolph embroidered cushion cover pattern, that you can find here.

  • White linen fabric – 2 x pieces about 5cm larger than the cushion inner

  • 12 x 12” sheet of red heat transfer vinyl
  • Piping – enough to go around the full size of the cover

How to

Step 1

Download the cutting patterns and transfer to your cutting machine. Remember to switch on the Half-Cut option before you start cutting.

Step 2

Add your green vinyl sheet to the cutting mat, shiny side down. Select the leaves only part of the pattern and cut. Remove from the mat. Use the hook tool to help weed.

Step 3

Repeat with red vinyl, this time selecting the berry only part of the pattern.

Step 4

Take one piece of your linen fabric and place it right side up on an ironing board or ironing mat.

Step 5

Place the green vinyl sheet onto the linen fabric, with the coloured cut side facing the fabric. Cover with a piece of baking paper or a silicone sheet, and press onto fabric. Remove the transfer foil.

Step 6

Position the berries onto the fabric, and repeat. Make sure all the parts are well fused. Place to one side.

Step 7

Take the other piece of linen and place it right side up. Attach the piping all around, edges aligning. Pin. Sew in place with the piping foot.

Step 8

Install the zipper on the bottom edge of the cushion. You can use an invisible or normal zipper.

Tip: if you haven’t sewn with invisible zippers before, check out our ‘how to’ video here.

Step 9

Line up the remaining three edges and sew all around right side to right side, enclosing the trim or piping in the seams. Finish with zig zag or overlock stitch.

Step 10

Turn right side out and insert cushion inner.
