Folded stars
These folded paper ScanNCut stars are easy to make and have so many uses. Hang them in the window, on the tree, use them to decorate gifts or your table.

Materials needed
- 180 gsm or slightly lighter paper – make sure the paper is a little flexible and isn’t too stiff.
- Strong double-sided tape or glue
- Matching colour string or sewing thread
- String for hanging
Equipment needed
- ScanNCut machine
- Cutting mat for paper – to check which mat you need for which job, check our blogpost here
- Blade for paper
- Roller and spatula
General instructions relating to ScanNCut:
- Always choose the correct mat for your material. The material should stick to the mat securely. Test a small piece on a corner of your mat to make sure you can remove it again without damaging the material. You can find our handy mat and blade guide for ScanNCut DX models here, and the ScanNCut CM models mat and blade guide here.
- We recommend that you do a test cut before you cut your design.
- Patterns can be transferred to your ScanNCut via USB or WiFi, depending on your model.
Step 1
Download the cutting files and load them on your machine. Our file will give you a star of 30cm diameter. You can scale them to any size you like using your machines in-built design features. You need to cut two of the pattern for each star.Step 2
Glue the little overlaps to form a long strip. See our video here.

Step 3
Fold on all the score lines in a zig zag manner.Step 4
Fold the whole piece like an accordion. Tie the matching string or sewing thread tightly around the centre.
Step 5
Fold the top ends to meet and glue the overlap to connect. Repeat at the bottom.
Step 6
Punch a hole and add a hanging string.
It’s now time to hang your stars and celebrate the winter season! Have you made our other hanging star pattern yet? You can find it here.
