Personalised napkins
Let your dinner table shine with these personalised napkins!
This is simple sewing project will really add a personal touch to your dining table.
This project can be achieved using a standard sewing machine with just a straight, and a decorative stitch. However, if you can drop the feed dogs on your sewing machine, you can also use freemotion sewing!

Materials needed
- Machine sewing thread
- Fabric square of 35 x 35cm for each napkin you want to make*
*For this project it is important to use a fabric that can be washed at a high temperature. We used a green cotton.
Equipment needed
- Sewing machine with built-in decorative stitches – we used the Innov-is A50
- Fabric scissors or rotatry cutter
- Water-erasable pen or chalk
- Freemotion foot - optional
How to
Step 1
Cut a square of 35 x 35cm from your fabric. You can make as many napkins as you like!
Tip: you can cut these with scissors, but a rotary cutter will make the edges neater.

Step 2
Use a decorative stitch to finish the edges. We used the scallop stitch (no 45) on the Brother Innov-is A50 sewing machine.
Step 3
Trim the fabric around the decorative stitching, Take care not to cut into the stitching.
Step 4
Time to get personal! Draw your initials, name or anything you like in the corner of the napkin with an erasable fabric pen or chalk. Then sew along the lines with a straight stitch.Tip: you can use freemotion stitching to draw the initials. Lower your sewing machine’s feed dogs and fit a freemotion foot. Follow the lines by moving the fabric while sewing in any direction.

Step 5
Make sure the lines of the pen or chalk are all wiped away.
Your personalised napkins are done!
