Sashiko runner
This striking runner uses our free quilting design as an embroidery.
We framed the pieces in red and navy sashiko fabric, then sewed them together to make a striking runner.
Will you use this for the table, your bed, a wall hanging or something else?

Material suggested
- Cotton duck for the centres that are to be embroidered
- Sashiko style fabric (we used the one made by French General for Moda) for the borders – however a woven printed cotton would be good if you can’t get hold of the French General fabric. Or why not try creating some Sashiko fabric yourself?
Stabiliser required
None required if you’re using the same fabrics as us, otherwise if your fabric is thin, you can use tearaway.
Stitch out tips and techniques
We used a matt thread, like the Brother Country Thread, to match the character of the sashiko fabric. You could even use normal sewing thread instead of a shiny rayon embroidery thread.
We mitred the corners of our sashiko borders - see our article about mitred borders to get the perfect ones for every project.
We can’t wait to see what you make! Remember to tag in Brother on Instagram and Facebook so we can share your makes and inspire others.
