New Year bunting
Welcome your guests and the new year with bright, sparkly bunting made at home with your Brother ScanNCut.
This New Year ScanNCut bunting project is made by layering glitter foam and card, offset with matte black to make the numbers and words really pop.We’ve created the ScanNCut cutting files for you, so all you need to do is download them for free below.
Let your bunting set the scene and let’s get ready to party!
Materials needed
- 4 x A4 sheets of pink card for the number flags
- 4 x A4 sheets of turquoise glitter foam or paper for the number flags
- 4 x A4 sheets of matte black card for the numbers
- 4 x A4 sheets of blue glitter foam for the numbers
- 3 x A4 sheets of pink glitter foam for the word flags
- 3 x A4 sheets of blue or turquoise card for the word flags
- 1 x A4 sheet of matt black card for the word outlines
- 1 x A4 sheet of silver glitter foam for the words
- Ribbon or string to tie the bunting flags
- Quick-drying glue or double-sided tape
- Double-sided foam tape
Equipment needed
ScanNCut - Hardware
- Brother ScanNCut – any CM Model
- Low Tack Adhesive Mat [CAMATLOW12]
- Standard blade [CABLDP1] and blade holder [CAHLP1]
OR
- Brother ScanNCut – any SDX model
- Low Tack Adhesive Mat [CADXMATLOW12]
- Standard auto-blade [CADXBLD1] and holder [CADXHLD1]

How to
Step 1
Download and transfer the New Year bunting cutting files to your Brother cutting machine via wireless connection or a USB stick.
Step 2
Cut four bunting flag pieces from the turquoise glitter foam using the file named NY Bunting Flag.fcm. Set aside.
Cut four bunting flag outlines (this is a flag piece, slightly bigger than the flag) from pink card using the file named NY Bunting Flag outline.fcm. Set aside.
Step 3
Cut the number outline files from matt black card: one each using the files named NY Bunting 0 outline.fcm and NY Bunting 6 outline.fcm.
Cut two using the file NY Bunting 2 outline.fcm.
Cut the number files from blue glitter foam: one each of 0 and 6 using the files NY Bunting 0 main.fcm and NY Bunting 6 main.fcm, and two using the file named NY Bunting 2 main.fcm.
Step 4
Lay the glitter numbers on top of the corresponding larger black numbers, check for positioning and then stick down with glue or tape.
Step 5
Lay the numbers on the bunting flags and glue in place.
The bunting flag pieces and flag outlines – pink and turquoise – are not glued together, but just stacked to give a more fluid, flag-like appearance to the New Year bunting.
Step 6
Cut the three word bunting flags from blue or turquoise card, using the file NY Bunting small flag.fcm and the three word bunting flag outlines from pink glitter foam, using the file NY Bunting small flag outline.fcm. Set aside.
Step 7
Cut word outlines for Happy, New and Year from black card using the following files:
- NY Bunting Happy outline.fcm
- NY Bunting NEW outline.fcm
- NY Bunting YEAR outline.fcm
Cut words from silver glitter foam, using the following files:
- NY Bunting Happy.fcm
- NY Bunting NEW.fcm
- NY Bunting YEAR.fcm
Glue the letters in place on top of the outline pieces.
Glue the word outlines onto the bunting flag pieces.
Step 8
It’s time to hang the bunting!
Layer the pieces for each bunting flag so that the holes are aligned. Make sure to get the Happy New Year words and numbers in the right order ;P
Thread a ribbon or string through the holes, tie loops at the ends and hang it across your doorway or on the wall.
Add balloons and pop the bubbly. We wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2026!
