Bring some love into your home with these romantic framed signs. They are the perfect way to express your feelings for those you live with, or for those you miss.
Both the ScanNCut’s foiling and calligraphy kits can be used to create inspirational makes for your home, but in this tutorial we use them side by side to make a heart themed set.

General instructions relating to ScanNCut:
- Always choose the correct mat for your material. The material should stick to the mat securely. Test a small piece on a corner of your mat to make sure you can remove it again without damaging the material. You can find our handy mat and blade guide for ScanNCut DX models here, and the ScanNCut CM models mat and blade guide here.
- We recommend that you do a test cut before you cut your design.
- Patterns can be transferred to your ScanNCut via USB or WiFi, depending on your model.
Step 1
Load the paper you wish to use in the A4 frame onto your ScanNCut mat and use the scanning function.
Step 2
Choose Calligraphy in your ScanNCut menu. Choose whichever text you’d like – we chose ‘Live, Love, Laugh.’ Resize and then replicate – position your designs so they fit onto the scanned A4 sheet you’re using, leaving a 2mm edge for the frame.
Step 3
Using the instructions provided with your ScanNCut Calligraphy Kit remove your ScanNCut’s cutting blade and holder. Using the calligraphy pen holder set up your calligraphy pen in the right position and place into the holder provided with the kit.

Step 4
Select ‘draw’ in the menu.Step 5
Once your calligraphy pattern has finished, set it to one side. Open Pattern A in your ScanNCut and from the drop down menu choose ‘Foil 1.’Step 6
Follow the onscreen instructions regarding your glue pen scale, then replace the calligraphy pen and holder with the foiling holder. Insert your glue pen until you hear the loud ‘click’ (so that you know it’s inserted properly).Step 7
Place the card or paper you’re using for the A5 frame onto your mat and, using the scanning function, scan into your ScanNCut. Position your design so that it fits, then start the glue function. Once the glue design has finished, follow the instructions on your ScanNCut screen.Step 8
Whilst you’re waiting for the glue to dry, remove the glue pen and the holder (remember to cap the glue pen so it doesn’t dry out!). Following your kit’s instructions, insert the burnishing tool into the end of the foiling holder and insert back into your machine.Step 9
Choose the colour foil you’d like to use for your design and place it coloured side up (dull silver side against the glue). Make sure the foil doesn’t extend past the card and touch your ScanNCut mat, or it will stick to your mat and damage it. If the glued area is larger than the foil you’re using, use a second sheet or any excess you have cut off and overlap, so all the glue is covered.Step 10
Place the blue sheet over the foil and tape down, without going past the black line on the top of your ScanNCut mat. Load into your machine, select ‘foil 2’ from the drop down, then press start.
Step 11
Unload the mat and carefully take the foil off your design. Use the rubber to dab off any excess foil (don’t rub!).Step 12
Frame both your pieces, adding your decorative roses to the A5 box frame.
