Interlocking heart card

Send a loved one a surprise hidden message with this interlocking heart card with custom-sized envelope.

Use patterned craft paper to decorate it or create your own unique style with background stamps and inked edges. You could even use your ScanNCut to foil a design onto the background paper before cutting it out – how special would that look?

The only limitation is your imagination.

Size

  • Card (closed): approximately 107 x 107mm
  • Envelope (closed): approximately 114 x 114mm

Materials needed

Paper/card (per card)

  • Two sheets of 12 x 12” cardstock: one for the card and one for the envelope. I recommend a smooth colour-core cardstock between 180gsm/65lb and 210gsm/80lb. Using thicker card may make the project difficult or impossible to assemble effectively.

Tip: for the thin belly-wrap strip, cut a 10mm wide strip from the end of one of your 12 x 12” sheets after you have cut the main shapes; you can wrap it around the card when it’s closed and glue the ends of the strip together and add an embellishment of your choice.
  • Two sheets of 12 x 12” paper: one for the card and one for the envelope. You can use pre-printed patterned paper or, as I did, use large rubber stamps to add the detail after you have cut the shapes out. I recommend a midweight paper/card such as 160gsm/65lb card stock.

You will also need

  • Bookbinding glue or low tack / quick grab glue
  • For scoring the fold lines, I recommend a fine tipped stylus and a metal ruler
  • Stamps and inks
  • Assorted embellishments (optional)
  • 15mm round self-adhesive hook and loop dot (optional)
