How to make a spooky Halloween coffin box
This Halloween it’s time to get spooky with your ScanNCut! These coffin shaped boxes are great for storing your trick or treat sweets in. They’re also the perfect spooky addition to the Halloween party table.
This pattern can be scaled up or down to suit whatever size you need. You could even make lots of different sizes to make your home extra creepy (and to store extra treats in for the big kids!). When changing the pattern, make sure you scale the pattern up – as a rule try to make sure to make the lids 1cm bigger than the bases, so they fit together easily.We’ve gone with a very classic black and orange look – but you can make these any colour you like. For added realness you could use wood or stone effect paper. If you want to paint these boxes, make sure you use a thin card rather than craft paper, so they’re structurally sound.
Materials needed:
- Downloaded patterns
- Selection of Halloween or plain craft card
- Craft glue or glue gun
- Sticky tabs
- Spooky sweets

General instructions relating to ScanNCut:
- Always choose the correct mat for your material. The material should stick to your mat securely. Test a small piece on a corner of your mat to make sure you can remove it again without damaging the material. - We recommend that you do a test cut before you cut your design.
- Patterns can be transferred to your ScanNCut via USB or WiFi, depending on your model.
Step 1
Download the free patterns and transfer to your ScanNCut via WiFi or pen drive.
Tip: the lid of the box is sized at 1cm taller/wider than the bottom of the box to ensure it fits properly. If you’re resizing the pattern, make sure you keep the lid 1cm bigger than the base.
Step 2
Place the card you’re using for the coffin on a standard tack adhesive mat and load into your ScanNCut.
Step 3
Bring up Pattern A for the coffin on your ScanNCut screen. Position so it fits onto the cutting area. If you want to resize the pattern, you can do this on your ScanNCut, but it might be easier to do in CanvasWorkspace, Brother’s free ScanNCut design software.
Test and cut.
Tip: even though the cut outs are all on one pattern they don’t all need to be of the same colour. Use the screen on your ScanNCut to delete which parts of the design you don’t want to cut this time round. You can use the ScanNCut template to do this as many times as you need.
Step 4
Fold all the perforated lines inwards and then glue the tabs as shown in the image.
Step 5
Bring up Pattern B for the cut outs on your ScanNCut. This is for the tags and labels that will go on your boxes.We’ve chosen some classic Halloween shapes, but you can have fun and design your own using CanvasWorkspace.
You could use these tags to let people know what’s in each box, who it’s for, use as a place setting, or even to write spooky messages on each box!
Step 6
Glue the tags to the front of the boxes, or attach with sticky tabs for a 3D look.Step 7
Fill with sweets or scares, then let the spookiness begin!
