How to make a pop-up Christmas card
Why not show your loved ones how much you’re thinking of them by making your Christmas cards this year?
Homemade Christmas cards are a great way to get into the seasonable spirit and add a personal touch to the Christmas greetings you send.
Pop-up cards might look hard to make but are easily achievable on your ScanNCut. The precision of the cutting blade allows for much more intricate designs than you could cut by hand.
Materials needed
- 1 x A4 coloured card
- 1 x A4 Christmas craft card
- Glue
Equipment needed
General instructions relating to ScanNCut:
- Always choose the correct mat for your material. The material should stick to the mat securely. Test a small piece on a corner of your mat to make sure you can remove it again without damaging the material. You can find our handy mat and blade guide for ScanNCut DX models here, and the ScanNCut CM models mat and blade guide here.
- We recommend that you do a test cut before you cut your design.
- Patterns can be transferred to your ScanNCut via USB or WiFi, depending on your model.
Step 1
Open pattern A. Place the patterned card for the pop-up section of the card on your cutting mat.
Tip: you can use different craft cards to easily add a personalised touch to each card you send out, or to fit in with your chosen seasonal colour scheme.
Step 2
Use the scanning function and position your card so it fits onto the cutting area, if required. Cut. Gently take the cut design off the mat.
Tip: we’ve included the word ‘winter’ in the cutting pattern, but you can use your ScanNCut to change the wording in the design.

Step 3
Gently fold along the dotted line, popping out the Christmas present box and making sure the star is standing up, as shown in the image below.
Step 4
Repeat Step 1 with pattern B and the coloured paper you wish to use for the outside of the card. Gently take the cut design off the mat.Step 5
Fold the card for the outside in half and stick the two parts of the card together. Write and mail!Tip: to add more interest to the plain outside of the card you can stick the cut outs from the words and scroll design cut in the craft card. Or use your ScanNCut and/or CanvasWorkspace to create your own designs.
